Strange Robot
The professor of my art class in my last semester of high school assigned us a final project to create an artistic work in any form we wanted. Typically, technology is seen as separate from the world of art, but for me, all stages of production and creation in developing a new device involve an equally important creative process as that required for painting or sculpture. Therefore, I decided to focus my project on a machine made from recycled materials that could move through space using semi-circular legs, inspired by one of the early robots from the company Boston Dynamics' RHex.
This robot had the following characteristics:
- One motor per leg.
- An Arduino Nano as the brain.
- An H-bridge to control two pairs of motors.
- A Bluetooth module for remote control with a computer.
This robot had no greater purpose than to demonstrate how it is possible to make "art" with technology. The construction process of this robot can be found in a video on my YouTube channel.
